“Some people are making such thorough preparation for rainy days that they aren't enjoying today's sunshine.”

~William Feather

I certainly hope you're enjoying your days of rain and sunshine. This quote says so much really, but in the literal sense, we made sure to take advantage of the break in rain, even though it was still cold, and enjoy the outdoors for a few hours with friends and family!

And we all enjoyed the preparation too... well, most of it :)

Not As Far As We Thought

IMG_0735

As of my last ultrasound it looks like Baby Boy Blue is measuring just a wee bit small, like by 5-7 days on average smaller than what our original due date was guestimated to be.

And well, anyone who's had a child knows that due dates are really just all about guesses and averages and measurements and such.

So, this week we had an appointment with our midwife and all still is going wonderfully! And though she said it really didn't matter too much, it was decided to "officially" move our due date back a week so that any physicians in the office wouldn't question why we weren't inducing if I end up holding out a wee bit longer. So our due date for Baby Boy Blue went from being February 5, 2010 to February 12, 2010.

This all worked out perfectly on a long, busy weekend, followed by a long, busy week where we were without a camera for part of it and never got around to taking our maternity series photo. I've lazily caught up to where my due date is now officially supposed to be. So when I post the next maternity series photo, I'll just be finishing up that week in the pregnancy.

And I may just have an extra week of my bundle of joy all bundled up in my belly!

Our Trip

IMG_0704

Just one of the five... count them, one, two, three, four, five photos we took before the camera battery died and we were without a camera for the rest of our trip.

Well, except for the few photos taken with the camera on my phone and shared here on twitter.

At least this photo is of THE animal that Aliyah wanted to see. She was excited listing off all the other animals at the zoo, but would just about burst when talking about the giraffes. Excited enough to drag her father through the park a second day so that she could see them again. You have to imagine my excitement when I came upon the cutest, softest, squishiest (is that a word?) little stuffed animal of a giraffe to bring back from work with me after hearing of her second trip to see these long-necked mammals.

I gave it to her at just the right moment, just as we began our drive home, with enough time for her to flash a huge smile, utter a small thank you, snuggle it right up to her cheek and proceed to fall asleep for the entire ride.

I just love giraffes.

Morning

IMG_0716

How I start most mornings, a steaming cup or organic pregnancy tea. This morning it was quite a bit later than usual, since my girl and I actually slept in until 10:30... I don't ever remember that happening... ever. Although with the amount of sleep we all clocked in this weekend, I'm not surprised.

Oh, and this week's maternity photos will be up sometime in the next couple of days, we didn't get a chance to take them this weekend while we were out of town with no camera.

Well, we did have a camera, just no camera battery, but it was all good!

Here's to the start of a wonderful day, started later than usual... and a wonderful week!

“All of life is a journey which paths we take, what we look back on, and what we look forward to is up to us. We determine our destination, what kind of road we will take to get there, and how happy we are when we get there.”
~Anonymous

We've been letting this weekend be a journey of new paths. Letting time slip by without keeping track, picking up the pace when we feel like it, slowing down when we feel like it. Besides the fact that I've been working an event out in the cold for half of our time away, the rest has been spent doing what we want, as a family. Exploring, relaxing, laughing... all are a part of the mix.

In all of it, can you believe that I left without charging my camera? The battery life on my camera is incredible, so I rarely need to charge it, thus I rarely check the charge. The only problem is that I didn't bring the charger, and haven't stopped to get a new one. So no new photos from this trip, unless you've been following me on twitter and happen to see a few of my updates from my phone. Oh well, maybe life without the camera will prove to make a more memorable trip. We'll see :)

It's The Right Thing To Do

IMG_0616

Lately there have been extra sniffles, coughs and boxes of kleenex being used in our house. So while we were home resting and getting extra fluids and vitamins, we also had a treat of smores made in our very own fire, sheltered from the cold. Because, it's the right thing to do.

Baby Boy Blue,
You are growing so fast, now weighing just over a pound and you're about the size of an ear of corn. This week, your sister was sitting on my lap and started laughing because she said she was sitting on the baby... then she moved over, rubbed my belly and said, "I love this baby." We are all so in love with you already. You're going to come into so much love and attention, you may get tired of it. Though, you like to move around so much, I have a feeling you're going to really enjoy it. My niece had her baby this week, and I was reminded of how tiny you'll be when we get to hold you. Can't wait!

“Don't you stay at home of evenings? Don you love a cushioned seat in a corner, by the fireside, with your slippers on your feet?”
~Oliver Wendell Holmes

Lately we've been enjoying our evening time at home, fireside, with slippers on... and with someone who's good at picking out movies.

Try it sometime, if you haven't already. It's the perfect fall accessory... the slippers and the fire.

Today. Friday.

Today is a bit of a mish mash. I'm all over the place. I'm trying to stay warm, and wish I could wear gloves inside... but it makes it a little hard to finish up these design projects I'm working on. I'm also trying to re-organize all my daughters belongings on the weekends and create a new room for her before we start on the baby's room, ponder what is the marvel of new life , and try with all my strength to stop thinking about the taste of warm baked apples so I can actually get something done today... when the internet at my office is actually working.

Although, I am so happy with the success of actually being able to see the floor of our laundry room. There are finally no stray articles of clothing left to be trampled on. I don't think that our laundry room has ever been that full, or our closets that empty. Remind me to never get that behind again.

And on to another topic, I can't believe that it's been a couple of months since opening a photography studio, RelishStudiosOnline.com, in collaboration with my friend Briony, and I haven't even shared the website with you here yet! So here it is, better late than never.

relishstudiosonline.com

It's been up for awhile, and yet it's not complete, though I'm sure websites are always that way... always needing more. Sounds kind of like kids. They really have to eat, every single day. Who would've thought?

And on yet another topic, Baby Boy Blue lets me know when it's time to eat, he starts tumbling all around, making any feeling of hunger very noticeable. And then he gives me lots of satisfied kicks and punches after I've eaten, I'm sure just to say thanks.

And so on that note, I'm going to go get my daughter from her grandparents so that we can spend a family evening in front of the fire with movies, hot cocoa and popcorn. Do all those things go together?

I guess we'll find out.

What are you doing this weekend?

Baby Boy Blue,
We've been really excited planning your arrival. This week has been spent cleaning. I've cleaned out my closets, and cleaned out tote after tote of stored baby gear and clothing. We saved everything that could be used for you, and gave all of your big sister's pink things to some dear friends due with a baby girl soon. It was also a week of keeping us all healthy... with quite a few people around us not feeling so well, we've worked hard at staying well. I did get some sniffles, but got over it quickly. So, as this week's photo time rolled around, we had to set up our shoot in the middle of cleaning and rest, so it was a quick one, but since your big sister was napping, it was easy to do. I'm still trying to wrap my head around having 2 kids in the house, and I still don't know that I can fathom it, but I'm so excited nonetheless. I couldn't help but picture you when sorting through at all those tiny little baby clothes this week.

I hope you all get the chance to take some time to relax and enjoy this changing season, it really is one of the prettiest seasons to watch.

Time Passing

A second was all it took to change everything: the rush of the car, the atmosphere inside, the one lonely tear that dripped down my cheek.

It started as normal a day as any busy day, the charge and hastiness of the morning, breakfast together as a family. A full day of work at the office, 'school' for my girl. And then ending just as normal as the day had begun, dinner, meetings, swim lessons.

A second was all it took for me to realize how sweet this precious time was with my daughter. A second was all it took for her to list off her age, and to count upward, quickly, through the coming years... showing me how quickly time really will pass us by. Before I know it, she'll be 16 and driving herself to whatever lessons or places life will take her. In that moment I realized that time is too precious for me to think about what's coming next, or what still needs to be crossed of my 'list.' This time, right now, in the car with my darling Baby Blue will only last but for a second.

Because, just this morning, she looked like this.

Baby Boy Blue,
It's been a good week of feeling you kick, squirm and move all over the place, especially when I eat. Something else started this week as well, or at least I began feeling them this week... contractions. My uterus is getting ready. While we were with the midwife, I had a big one, but she said it was normal, just practice for the big day. So I get to 'practice' at least a couple of times a day. This is new for me, I never have felt them before. This week you are almost 11 inches long and weigh about a pound! We began picking out paint for your big sister's room, and once we get her all settled into her new room, we can get yours ready. I must have started nesting, because I can't seem to keep the house clean enough and want to sort through everything. This week, during our pictures, your sister helped daddy take the pictures of us, and then got herself all dressed up and ready for her own portraits. It was adorable. She talks and sings to you everyday, and cannot wait to meet you!
