Surprise Giveaway:: My Baby Clothes

my baby clothes

I'll shamefully admit that I'm an ever lovin' fan of cute baby clothes.  Now that I have a boy, I still try and find adorable outfits... that aren't covered in trucks or baseballs.  But give me red gingham for the Fourth?  Perfect.  Fedora topped toddler head? Love.

Because I love dressing babies in dapper duds and adorable apparel, because this weekend is a fun firework-filled holiday and because I love y'all, I thought I'd spread the cuteness love thanks to My Baby Clothes... where my little guy's rockin' little romper is from.

10 things...

We've just barely begun biting into the sweet deliciousness that is summer, with all the sink-your-teeth-into-it moments that wouldn't happen any more than if we lived on a set for the Food Network, and yet we've started the filling process of celebrating summer.

I've noticed myself saying YES more than NO lately.  And not to the wrong things, but to the summer things, the kid things, the sweet and sticky things... the right things.  Like when we arrive home from a full day out and I could fall asleep if a pillow were placed anywhere near me, but the sun hasn't fallen yet and my daughter asks, "Can we go for a walk?" as she pulls her bicycle out of the garage.  Or when we're near one of the best homemade ice-cream parlors in Michigan, and my husband shoots me that sly smile with a "Should we stop for some?" and visions of my baby licking his first baby cone dance through my head.  I rally.  I rally with an enthusiastic YES.

Lately, we've been enjoying crossing some things off of our summer bucket list in a completely un-orderly order, because sometimes, life throws a little random in there...

Movie Theater Dates with the Littles
Complete with slushies and popcorn, giggles and cheesy smiles, fast cars and talking trucks.

Impromptu Stops at the Splash Pad
While we're on our way to the grocery store, I look down and notice the temperature reads 78 degrees, not too hot really, but warm enough for a stop at a nearby splash pad to let some of that energy bubbling up in the backseat find a place to escape.  When the light turns green, I switch off my right-hand turn signal and make a quick lane change while turning the wheel to the left.

My new #1 Summer Rule: Keep swimsuits in the diaper bag and towels in the trunk.  And luckily on this day, I had both.

He Likes Shoes
When we're heading out the door, I'll say "Get your shoes" and he runs with a grin to his room saying, "sue, sue" and emerges with a random pair.  But there's nothing better than seeing chubby set of curled up baby toes trying to fit into daddy's sandals. CUTE.

Making Dinners at Home a Little More Special
Not that we don't cook at home, but lately, we've been so busy that when we do, it's usually a simple, easy, fall-back meal.  I decided to change that.  And instead of the usual, I've been directing little hands to help me mix in yeast and flour, spread out dough, decorate the cheese with colorful toppings, and wearing big gloves to carefully remove from the oven.  And she's loving it.  Pizza night is now: half pepperoni, half spinach and feta and a side of cranberry apple walnut salad with a freshly whipped maple vinaigrette.

Getting a Little Help
Just rented this amazing lens for this gorgeous couple's wedding coming up, and I can't wait to play with it.

Stopping at Starbucks
If you know me at all, you know my affinity for Starbucks.  I think the fact that I travel a lot helps feed the fire, it's one place that is the same everywhere.  It's one place that helps me to feel at home no matter where I am.  And when I am at home? My family loves it just as much as I do.  But taking a few minutes to use the real table ware and pull up a chair while engaging in rousing conversations with my four year old and one year old, well, that's the icing on the very berry coffee cake.

Kittens
There is no love loss for these little cuties that have been growing up in our home these past 6 months.  Aliyah still dresses them up, and they take it... and still cuddle with her at bedtime.  Brayden lays on them to give his more than generous hugs, and they take it... though usually begging with their eyes for reprieve.

And when we're spending one of our long mornings sprawled out on the big bed, my two legged littles and their four legged tag-alongs are usually all pretzeled there together.

Monthly Photoshoots
We've been having fun charting Brayden's growth each month with his large plush giraffe, and now? He want's to climb on it rather than stand next to it.

Sixteen month post coming soon...

My Daughter, the Photo-Grapher
And yes, it's pronounced just like that.  Two words.  Photo Grapher.  That's what she said after playing tirelessly with my camera.  When she finally, reluctantly, gave the camera back said, "Maybe that's what I'll be someday too, a Photo Grapher."

Yes, baby, maybe you will.

A bit of her handiwork:

Baby's First Cone
He finally had his very own baby-sized cone, about the size of our thumb, and it was too cute. I think this photo was taken towards the end of it's devouring, where he let out a satisfied "Mmmmmm."  Yes, a good cone on a hot summer day is so very satisfyingly Mmmmmm.

Happy Tuesday friends!  Can't wait to hear what you've been enjoying lately.

Whimsy

Tori

Tea parties and pretend horses. Popsicles and dancing in the street.  Playing with shadows and hopscotch. Whatever it is, add a touch of whimsy to your day!

This photo is of my sweet niece at Aliyah's wonderland birthday party... and I need to take some new pictures of her before we move out of state in September.  Did I mention we were moving? Making the trek down I-75 from Michigan to Florida and we're excited!

Sunday Citar ~ Becoming

Welcome to Sunday Citar, a place to share quotes that you've heard or love, quotes to inspire or make laugh, quotes that we all want to see!

"Move, travel, take a class, take a risk. There is a season for wildness and a season for settledness, and this is neither. This season is about becoming."
~Shauna Niequist

I came across a post from a couple of months ago and the whisper of it still echos load and clear, so I thought I'd share it again.
It's like someone went through my soul with a wrecking ball and busted out a wall to free some dormant emotions. I've been seeing things differently and looking at others with eyes that aren't so much my own, at least not what my own used to be, and yet they are.
I know I'm going in circles right now like a cat chasing their own tail and you're just wondering, "When are they going to realize what they're doing?" And you know what? I have absolutely no idea. Have I been looking at the same things? Yes. But I'm seeing with more color, I'm looking deeper, I'm feeling more. I think that sometimes with change, which in itself is never easy to naturally accept because there is always an innate reaction to fight it, but when you begin to embrace it that's when you see differently. So I may be looking at the same things, but seeing more. And if change is the catalyst, that proverbial cat tail that has me spinning around in circles... deep, colorful, exciting circles... then BRING IT.
I'm relishing this season of risk and change, and embracing this time of becoming.

Just Believe

Softball

Last night culminated this past season of softball and dragging our big blue chairs and small striped kids' seats to the field to watch Chris and the rest of his team run the bases in hopes of passing home plate a few more times than the other team.  Playoffs came and went.  Did we win? No, but we sure had fun.

At one point while my sister-in-law was up to bat, Aliyah yelled out from her little chair perched behind the fence set up right next to the player's bench.

"Crystal, you just have to believe!"

I'm living by those words today, with all the bases loaded and the pressure of hitting a home run is on me.  But, I believe.

Britt + Tim:: Downtown Engagement

He said he would never move away again without marrying her first, and here he was, just days before the move and as she looked down at her finger... there was still no ring.

She kept denying his request for a dinner out, for one thing she was too sick to even think about getting dressed up and going out, and for another? She didn't want to hear any more about the new city he would call home in a mere few days... without her. But he persuaded, and persuaded, and finally she gave in.

After dinner at one of their favorite restaurants, they sat on the bench that has been home to numerous heartfelt conversations, dreams and kisses. But this time? Brittney looked at Timothy, and instead of sliding a little closer for her to rest those blonde locks on his shoulder or leaning in to whisper promises of love in her ear, he was on his knees, with the ring she longed to see adorn her finger held out in a little black box.

This past weekend, Tim flew home for about 36 hours to hug his dad for Father's Day, snuggle his soon-to-be bride and sneak in a quick engagement session.  And after three months apart? This session was full of nothing but smiles... and kisses.

Brittney wanted a slight urban vibe to the shoot, and was hoping to find some train tracks, so we started out in a quaint little downtown area.  The buildings proved to be our saving grace, because the only time we had with them was in the bright of mid-day.

It's a good thing there weren't any behind-the-scenes cameras for this shoot, because there were a couple of poses we wanted to try and it was so much easier to show them than to tell them.  Since my husband, and usual stand-in, wasn't with us... let's just say it's a good thing Briony and I both wear deodorant.

Britt + Tim:: Engaged

Britt and Tim, you guys were amazing, we had such a great time with you and can't wait to shoot your wedding in just a couple of short weeks!
