Friends, Islands and Dancing in the Seaweed

She couldn't wait for the day to arrive. With each night's kisses and hugs, she'd check off another mark on the countdown calendar that was constantly running updates through her mind. Finally, after much finger twirling and one last tuck-in under the covers, our friends from Michigan arrived. Late, they sleepily dragged their luggage in from the car as our two littles woke to greet them with stories and smiles and squeals of delight.

From that moment, these three were tethered to each other. Three little birds bumping and chirping around our nest, leaving little trails of their fun along the way.

We explored stretches of beach near our home that we hadn't yet sunk our toes into. We collected shells and let laughs hover over head in the salty ocean breeze. And we remembered just what it is about Michigan that we miss... the beautiful miracle of true friendship. Those relationships that have developed over time. The conversations that pick up right where they left off a year ago. Being comfortable just being, and just being with blankets stretched out and snacks passed back and forth on a treasure laden coastline of a nearby island doesn't hurt either.

Happy start to the week friends! I've been slow to post since I'm working without my computer, and fingers have been crossed that the photos from Brayden's three year birthday celebration, along with much, much more have been spared as my hard drive is being replaced. I'll be picking it up my repaired computer in the morning and we shall see.

For now, I'll just keep enjoying a little extra time with these lovable littles.

The Maternity Series: 21 Weeks

21 weeks

We're in the middle of this tradition right now, where each night before bed (as long as it's not a random late night and we miss it) Chris tells a story to the wide eyes and little sponges tucked under their comforters and cradled by teddy bears and stuffed puppies. In good adventure-making fashion, each person get's to pick their favorite color and favorite animal of the moment and the story-crafter creates the character with that... and this time there's an epic adventure happening where we end each "chapter" with a cliff-hanger and two excited little ones begging for more. This time, it's a series chronicling the adventures had by Penelope (our new puppy) and a group of brave souls created by our own "favorites" and imaginations.

And I love these times with our little ones, with their minds stretching and growing to infinity, where creativity and bravery, chance and choice, fighting for good and helping others is shaping their worlds. I want my children to grow up believing that anything is possible, even if for a minute they believe that Penelope is fighting for good with a flying unicorns and a special forces bunny. I want them to know that they can dream big, and then live it. As I lay there each night listening to the stories, recording them in my memory banks for later and rubbing my protruding, kicking belly, knowing that my own little bunny is growing familiar to daddy's voice, I get excited about holding a small, cradled, milk-scented little one in my arms again. There's almost a thrill in knowing that these moldable souls rely on us for everything, a thrill because it's exciting and yet scary at the same time. But knowing that this new bunny will come into our world, into these night time rituals and daily dares to dream big, well, that's just one big check mark in the "We've Got This" category.

Does everything end up in that category? Absolutely not, but as far as dreaming and reaching goes, we'll continue to dream and reach over the rainbow... and over that formidable gumdrop mountain.

PS. Something else I'm loving right now? Little belts! The actually make me look like I sort-of have a waist, even if it has moved up a few inches and hits right below other growing body parts. Mama needs to find some more belts!

A Gift of Kisses: Sunday Citar and a DIY Valentine

I waited to post about this little prezzie I made for my husband because I'm sure he reads each and every post. And by that, I mean that I didn't want the one post that he happened to come across this week, or month, to be his gift before he had the chance to receive it. But it doesn't have to be Valentine's Day to give a gift of kisses. I think kisses should be given often and freely to the ones you love.

Valentine Gift of Kisses-3

Valentine Gift of Kisses-1
I recently pinned a sweet little project to my board dedicated to love day on Pinterest, and knew I had to make something special of my own for my man. So I rummaged through our box of unused (or at least non-wall-adorning) frames to find this gem, grabbed a sheet of cardstock from the office and a few of my favorite lip colors.
Valentine Gift of Kisses-2
Then came the fun, slightly awkward part... kiss, kiss and kiss some more. I had a wipe and a paper towel so that I could swipe on a color to leave a few kisses and wash, rinse, repeat.
Valentine Gift of Kisses-3
I considered writing a note across the front matte, but decided to leave a note on the back instead, and so I just secured it with some cute ribbon tape. This gift of kisses now hangs in our room, so my favorite man can always have kisses around, even for those moments when I'm not.
Valentine Gift of Kisses-4
Hopefully your love day was filled with something sweet, whether it be kisses, gifts or something else quite literally sweet. For me? I'm still working on my box of chocolates. Cheers to a new week, friends!

Little Lovies: Weekend Edition

I started this post on Monday actually, and right in the middle, I was whisked away for an early Valentine overnighter. I quietly closed my laptop and happily obliged, only to return days later to finish up this post.

It's been way too long since I've posted a 10 things that I'm loving right now post, and I've missed it. Those quick little glimpses into our lives, into my kid's lives. A roundup of where we are and what we're doing right now, in the moment. Though I think I'm ditching the list of ten, because for one, I'm not sure where that number came from, and two... I don't think my pregnant brain is quite aligned with a number driven list at the moment.

So here's goes, some little lovies that have been making us happy this past weekend, in few words and many photos.

Weekends were made for the driveway car wash.

Little brother's climbing skills and intense determination to spell out words... he lines letters up on his magnetic board and makes up a phrase. "This is what is says, mama."Weekend Lovelies-13 Weekend Lovelies-14

Last weekend's warm temps let us enjoy our first swim of the season.

What do you have planned for this weekend? Please share, whether it's tucking in to a cozy home while winter peaks in from the window or heading out for a busy afternoon, I'd love to hear!

For us, we've got a little boy turning three and an "under the sea" celebration that is now moving indoors because a cold front is coming through, and a houseful of guests are arriving from Michigan as well. This weekend should prove to be another one full of happies.
